Cachaça (pronounced ka-SHA-sa) is a spirit native to Brazil, and is distilled from fresh sugar cane juice.
Considered a member of the rum family, it has a lighter flavor than most rum, which is made from a molasses base.
Regarded as one of the world’s oldest distilled spirits, historians estimate that cachaça was created about 100 years before the invention of rum.
